Dining Organizers

Start a new group

Each month we feature a selected reading, video or other thought-provoking piece to get the conversation started. Here are this month’s videos and discussion guide (PDF):

What’s the deal with the Dining Organizers?

The plan is to get a few organizers, say six to eight, and have them meet up about once a month at someone’s home to discuss organizing principles based on a reading or video. The hope is that organizers from different schools of thought, issue campaigns, and walks of life get together to share their unique perspective on organizing. All of this is done, of course, while enjoying a glass of wine, some homemade lasagna, and making new friends.

How do I become a Dining Organizer?

Is there a Dining Organizer group meeting in your neck of the woods? If so, you should sign up! You can also search for upcoming events in your area.

The host of your neighborhood chapter will contact you and give you the scoop on when the group is meeting, directions, what you can bring, and any other important information. You can find the monthly reading/video right here.

If there is no group of Dining Organizers meeting near you or the local group has reached capacity, start your own! Sign up here to be a host and start your own chapter. As a host, you’ll commit to inviting organizers to your home once a month for a potluck dinner party. We’ll set up a quick phone call to talk about how to make your group successful and fun!

Why should I become a Dining Organizer?

Community organizers are a special breed; we get stuff done by empowering and engaging others. We’re a unique and diverse community of go getters and do gooders. We also need a social outlet that serves as a constructive forum for the exchange of ideas.

How did the Organizers start Dining?

Joy Cushman, NOIEF Organizing Director, and her organizer friends were looking for a way to step outside of the work environment and really chew into nitty gritty organizing principles. They were looking for a comfortable place to peel apart organizing styles and devour shared best practices. Speaking of chewing, peeling, and devouring; organizers need to eat too. Ba da bing, Ba da boom – Dining Organizers was born.

So we gave Dining Organizers a test drive through the streets of DC last fall. Over 100 organizers chewed, chatted, and changed up the way they look at organizing. Now we’re taking it to the big show and asking you to start a Dining Organizers chapter in your hometown.
